Although his revelations made headlines, he was effectively banned from major network TV shows, and his book was not reviewed by establishment publications.īut the book became a best-seller. They leaned on talk shows to shun Aldrich. Howard Shapiro, the FBI general counsel, thoughtfully gave a copy to the White House, enabling its hatchet men plenty of time to plan and prepare a media counterattack. Aldrich had to submit his manuscript to the FBI for approval. Stephanopoulos tried to sink Aldrich's book before it went into stores.
